Belphegore

His small, pig-like eyes are nearly lost in the vast expanse of his brutish face, which seems larger for the fact that this enormous demon is entirely bald. In fact, in Base Pandemonium, Belphegore is second only to Mammon in sheer bulk, yet he carries himself with a grace that hints at more than adequate skill with the huge axe that always remains by his side. His flesh is a leathery, scaly orange-brown, tufted here and there with black, wiry hair and criss-crossed with battle scars. He is dressed, incongruously, in armor of impeccable workmanship over clothing of fine make. Despite his girth and obvious strength, there is something of the fop about Belphegore, evident in everything from his finely-crafted armguards to the heavy golden chain around his nearly-invisible neck.

Belphegore has been named Prince Mammon's Champion, for he has won more than his share of Council Arena battles for the Prince in his days of Knighthood. Now that he is a Baron, he serves under Gresil as watchdemon and Supervisor of Nasagriam's Maggot Fields, an influential and powerful position for a Baron.

Belphegore oversees the Maggot selection process in the shipments that are sent to the Maggot Fields. He assures that the highest-quality Maggots sent from Kerr'epytha are portioned in three ways: The best go to the King in the City, the rest of the best are sent in set allotments to each of the Princes, and the least of the best (and the greatest in number) are sown into the Maggot Fields to feed the Larvae, as decreed by Lucifer's Law. This ensures that the fields of Larvae (immature Fallen) struggling towards sentience are guaranteed a good meal, thus speeding up the re-population of Hell.

Since the quality of Maggots is something an expert can easily comprehend, Belphegore is likely one of the experts on soul quality and can quickly judge the worth of a Maggot or even the mature Maggots: the Damned.

Belphegore is also in charge of providing patrols around the general Fields to keep illegal theft and smuggling from going on, since by Law, all Maggots belong to the King. Maggots, especially the best quality, are prized for their small reserve of the FOL, and therefore are often found on the black market.

The Maggots who reach sentience are ignored by Belpehgore and his staff (they are useless as their FOL can only be extracted after Maggot stage by those with DVR), but prize Maggots can often fetch good prices in favor or barter. It is rumored that there is more than a little smuggling going on under Belphegore, and possibly (or so it's rumored) through the Ranks of Haa-Yawen, though nobody dares to name Mammon in the illegal procurement of high-quality Maggots.

Those Maggots who reach sentience are not ignored by others, however, and are often funneled through the Slavers who make their living off of this 'byproduct' of the Maggot Fields.
