If you want to read about the general RPG foundation for the game, please refer to the RPG document. Top | Roles | Play Frequency | Character Creation | Contributions RolesThere are several roles available for the campaign:
Each role has certain musts and a few coulds to it. Confer with the GM before detailing any one of them. Top | Roles | Play Frequency | Character Creation | Contributions Play FrequencyWhen running an Amber campaign, I operate best with a periodicity of 2 weeks, and with the kind of time that a weekend slot affords. Thus, given my druthers, I'd play on Sundays, every other week. Top | Roles | Play Frequency | Character Creation | Contributions Character CreationAmber is a game about mystical powers, perilous politics, and epic booting of head. Players should endeavor to create characters that cover at least two of these three bases, with it working out best if all three are at least touched upon. As a GM I tend to avoid themes that involve plumbing the depths of the powers of the cosmos. These bore me to tears and in the end have about all the dramatic impact of five hours of Star Trek technobabble. That said, not having access to powers will hurt you, so make sure to keep an eye on that. This game will use the "FATE" system devised by Rob Donoghue and myself, which breaks up character generation into an interactive timeline that all characters may participate in. The specifics will be made available eventually on this site, but suffice it to say, all will be covered in our face-to-face pre-game session where we do character generation. ContributionsHere are the items I'm looking for at this time; no promises, but helping the GM build the world is likely to have value on several levels: Lords: Profile a Lord (one of the former Kings, or a lesser noble if so desired). At the least, I need a name and a personality to warrant that point, and if that's all you're giving, it'll have to be really good. Add in their political aims -- insofar as they are public -- and if you're doing a set of Lords, talk about the key relationships that exist among them. Lord contributions stack well with the other ones, below. Families: Generally needs a Lord to ride off of. These are like Lord profiles, but are quick sketches -- name the significant members of the Lord's family, and give a sentence or two about each member. Lands: Choose a section of Amber's geography to detail. It should have a few significant landmarks and note any worthwhile resources it provides. If the land is part of a Lord's territory, note it. I may look for other kinds of contributions as the ones above pile in. I'll be sharing the contributions I receive in the private player area as I get them, so people can see what's out there and work off of other players' contributions if so desired. | |
